election opinion post

I normally don't put up opinion posts - I'm usually too busy and lazy to keep up on the news, and although I usually vote republican in elections I understand the democratic perspective in many cases.  I, myself, don't really think it's fair that someone else will pay for my healthcare, but, given that after deductions my income is about 30,000, I don't think my taxes will be raised.  So I'll vote what I think is right and be very happy if I get another free $600 like I did earlier this year.  I promise to do my best to stimulate the economy by spending it. :)

In the case of Obama, I decided to break that because I don't think he is a normal democratic candidate.  What pushed me over the edge was hearing that cash cards are allowed for campaign contributions.  Call me a conspiracy theorist, but there are too many things that bother me.  I send you all the list primarily because it will make me feel better.  I certainly won't ask you who you voted for, and I think it's very reasonable for you to go through the list and decide the evidence is not convincing.  I can also understand if you think a similar list about John McCain and Sarah Palin is even scarier.  I don't, but you may.  I'll also say that I haven't had time to finish this, or research John McCain this thoroughly.  He's been around a lot longer, though.  As someone said, McCain was a POW longer then Obama's been a senator and so I think there are more things about Obama we don't know.  (Case in point, his poor aunt.  It's not a reason to vote against him, but I think he should have stood up for her.)

So the three things that bother me most about Obama that I think you should consider are as follows:

(1) He has probable sketchy associations

(a)    Rev Wright
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Story?id=4443788

(b)   Bill Ayers http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/17/us/politics/17truth.html?_r=2&ei=5088&en=2b5e7c726c82f40a&ex=1366171200&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1225538679-+KF8q1D1e7tVwV3MWxaljw

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/04/us/politics/04ayers.html

(c)    Rashid Khalidi http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamamideast10apr10,0,1780231,full.story
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/30/us/politics/30campaign.html?ref=politics
http://www.nbc12.com/Global/story.asp?S=9262114&nav=menu128_4 (put out by GOP – ad, but includes the sources)

(d)   Tony Rezko http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Story?id=4111483
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122005063234084813.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

(e)   Farrakan
http://www.suntimes.com/news/mitchell/821131,CST-NWS-mitch02.article
http://www.biography.com/search/article.do?id=9291850
http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/archive/barackobama/
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/02/25/farrakhan-praises-obama-as-hope-of-entire-world/

Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house; Obama can see Rezko, Khalidi, and Ayers.  Since the house cost over 1.4 million dollars, I assume he chose to live there.

(2) I am concerned that, solicited or unsolicited, other nations may be influencing the presidential race in Obama's favor

(a)    It is possible for people outside of the US to illegally donate to a campaign by buying a cash card and make up a name. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/content/article/2008/10/28/AR2008102803413_pf.html
http://www.newsweek.com/id/162403

(b)     Obama has raised more money than Bush and Kerry combined in 2004 – this in what has been called the biggest financial crisis since the great depression. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/us/politics/20donate.html

(c)    Obama raised record sums in September – the most of any month during his campaign. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122441294251948009.html

During September, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were seized by the government,  Lehman brothers went belly up, AIG was bailed out, WAMU is seized and Wachovia white-knighted by citigroup.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/oct/08/creditcrunch.marketturmoil Retail sales went down 1.2% (http://wallstreetblips.com/story/retail_sales_plunge_1_2_percent_in_september_financial/)

His fundraising rate dropped in half in October http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/24/obama-fundraising-drops-million-october/, despite a rise in the polls, and the proximity to the election.  This drop coincides with the financial panic spreading to Asian and Middle Eastern markets. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/financialcrisis/3159957/Global-financial-crisis-Panic-hits-Asian-and-Middle-Eastern-markets.html

(3) Obama has extreme views on Abortion

(a)    He stated to Planned Parenthood that he will sign the freedom of choice as soon as he become president (http://video.aol.com/video-detail/barack-obama-promises-to-sign-foca/332362041, this is the best video I can find, it seems to be buried in the news.)

(b)   He voted against the "Born Alive protection act"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Born-Alive_Infants_Protection_Act

(c)    He endorsed partial-birth abortion

(d)   He is rated 100% by NARAL (prochoice advocacy group)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102197.html

(I've gotten lazy on these and I need to send this out.  If anyone needs proof on Obama's prochoice ways, email me and I will find you articles.)

(4)  This is relatively minor, but he doesn't seem to perform well under lack of sleep as exhibited by

(a)    57 states http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIws

(b)   Forgets to put his hand over his heart during national anthem http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1662530_1446035,00.html

(c)   the phrase "my muslim faith"  I included a youtube with the context – I understand why he might have said it given the context, but it was a stupid thing to say http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1150540,CST-NWS-faith08.article
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQqIpdBOg6I

(d) "bitter clingers to guns and religion"  That was a really stupid thing to say

Now you'll have to make your own list about John McCain and figure out which one's worse.  I suppose (1) for him will be "100 years in Iraq"

Happy Voting!

Love,
Laura

In other news, some are calling us to pull out of Obama's home district of Chicago.  http://cbs2chicago.com/local/chicago.summer.shootings.2.810166.html

Help! I like my Honda again, but am sick of my thesis!

Not that this is anything new.  Just thought I'd publically gripe. :)

The only thing new here is 50 pages.

Hope you all are doing well - and your lives are slightly more exciting!  Hugs around!

Help! I'm sick of my Honda

and I've had it two days!  It's not the car, it's that I've been told the darn thing will never die.  I think I fear commitment.  I typically drive 10 k a year, and if the blasted thing goes to 200k, I'm stuck with it for 20 years.  The thought makes me feel a little ill.  It's a nice little car, power windows, cd player, fairly smooth ride, great gas mileage, and prettier than most vehicles in its class.  But I know the financially wise choice is to keep the thing until it dies, and the thought of owning that car past the age of 40 is really scaring me . . . .

I'm having second thoughts . . . . I wonder if this is what getting married is like.

I have serious commitment issues. :-/

So the church I've been visiting here started a Daniel fast.  It ends Jan 30th.  Although I think in general it's good to participate in this, I'm wondering if because I'm visiting I can get out of it.  I can handle no meat.   I can even forgo sugar and chocolate for ten days.  Eggs, milk, and cheese, well, it's not that long.  But coffee . . . how am I to go 10 days without coffee?  I'll die.

yum

ah, sweet love

brown and mellow, rich and full

my nights belong to you

In other news, I've developed a taste for country music and radiohead.  What's happening to me?  I used to have such good taste.  Oh well.

(I suppose now would be the time to stage an intervention)
